His Excellency President Dr. Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid received the Azerbaijani ambassador to Iraq, Mr. Nasir Mammadov, on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at the Presidential Palace in Baghdad.

During the meeting, they discussed the friendship and cooperation between Iraq and Azerbaijan, exploring ways to develop these relations across various fields. The President emphasized the importance of enhancing the nature of bilateral relations and expanding cooperation to achieve mutual interests, noting the positive impacts on the economic, tourism, and investment sectors of both countries. He highlighted the significance of environmental cooperation in addressing climate change, desertification, and water scarcity, as well as collaboration in security and education through the exchange of expertise, missions, and scholarships.

The President expressed hope for Azerbaijan's successful hosting of the United Nations Climate Conference (COP29), wishing that the conference would yield results and recommendations that are scientifically and practically applicable, benefiting the environment and humanity as a whole.

For his part, Ambassador Mammadov provided the President with an overview of the agenda and sessions for COP29, expressing his country's hope for Iraq's participation in the conference, which would strengthen bilateral cooperation and coordination on various international issues.
