On Tuesday, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Naim Al-Aboudi, confirmed the continuation of international cooperation with Iraq to develop its national capabilities in peaceful nuclear applications.


A statement from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research noted that "the Chairman of the Iraqi Atomic Energy Agency and Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Naim Al-Aboudi, represented the Republic of Iraq at the 68th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna, Austria."


In his speech at the conference, the Minister emphasized "the pursuit of the safe and peaceful use of nuclear technology, the enhancement of its developmental, economic, and health programs, and support for future plans to obtain energy from diverse sources."


He explained that "Iraq and its relevant executive institutions are working diligently to achieve sustainable development goals and support this effort by joining several agreements, including the Convention on Nuclear Safety, the Joint Convention on the Safety of Spent Fuel Management and on the Safety of Radioactive Waste Management, as well as enacting and implementing several related laws, such as the Iraqi Atomic Energy Agency Law and the National Authority for Nuclear, Radiological, Chemical, and Biological Regulatory Law in 2024."


He further noted that "the Iraqi government continues its positive cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency in building and developing national capacities in peaceful nuclear applications through technical cooperation programs and projects, as well as training and development opportunities," emphasizing that "these programs are crucial for enhancing the safe and peaceful uses of technology."
