On Thursday, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian expressed Tehran's intention to enhance relations with both Erbil and Baghdad and to "resolve all issues" during his first international visit since assuming office.

Speaking alongside Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani, Pezeshkian stated, "We are here to strengthen our relationship with Erbil, Kurdistan, and Iraq, and to, God willing, address all existing problems." He made these remarks in Kurdish while addressing reporters.

Pezeshkian arrived in Erbil on Thursday, following a visit to Baghdad the day before, where he met with Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid and Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani.

President Barzani highlighted the historical, cultural, and linguistic connections with Iran, calling the Iranian president’s visit to the Kurdistan Region a "historic event" and expressing Erbil's eagerness to improve relations with Tehran.

In Erbil, Pezeshkian also held discussions with Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) President Masoud Barzani, along with representatives from the region's political and religious circles.

Following his stay in Erbil, Pezeshkian is scheduled to travel to Sulaimani to meet leaders from the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK).

The relationship between the Kurdistan Region and Iran remains positive. During an April forum in Sulaimani, President Barzani acknowledged Iran's role in the Kurdistan Region's economic “success.”

On Wednesday, Pezeshkian and Sudani oversaw the signing of 14 agreements covering various sectors such as the economy, culture, and cooperation between chambers of commerce, according to a statement from the Iraqi prime minister’s office.
