U.S. President Donald Trump reiterated that Egypt and Jordan will accept displaced residents from the Gaza Strip, repeating multiple times that they will do so. This statement was made during a chat with reporters at the White House on Thursday while he was signing memorandums and executive orders. When asked by a reporter, "Egyptian President (Abdel Fattah el-Sisi) and Jordanian King (Abdullah II) have rejected your proposal to accept displaced residents from Gaza. Is there any way to make them do it?" Trump responded three times, "Yes, they will. They will. They will.
Trump had said last Saturday that he spoke to the King of Jordan about relocating some Gaza residents to Egypt and Jordan. On Monday night, Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One that he spoke to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi about relocating some Gaza residents to Egypt, and he hopes and believes that "he and the King of Jordan will accept relocating some Gaza residents to their countries.
Trump described el-Sisi as his friend, saying, "He is a friend of mine, and I am sure he will help us," adding that el-Sisi wants peace in the region. When asked by reporters about his response to the issue of accepting Palestinians, Trump said, "I would like him to do it. I hope he accepts some of them. We have given them a lot of assistance, and I am sure he will help us too. He is an old friend of mine in a very tough place in the world. But I think he will do it, and I think the King of Jordan will do it too."
