Sources quoted Qatar's ambassador to Tehran, Saad bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud Al Sharif, as saying, "The Emir of Qatar and the Iranian president insisted that the level of economic relations should reach the level of political relations. Mohammed Al-Sharif pointed out that the two countries have been living side by side for hundreds of years and share many historical, social, and cultural commonalities. He mentioned that senior officials in Doha have instructed him to attempt to elevate the political and economic relations between the two countries.
