The Iranian president, Masoud Bezhkishan, hinted on Sunday that Iran's response to Israel might change if a ceasefire is reached in the tense areas of the region. The "IRNA" news agency reported that Bezhaskian stated, "If the Israelis change their behavior and agree to a ceasefire and stop killing the innocent, it may affect the intensity and quality of our attack.
Bezeshkian confirmed that Iran will not tolerate any aggression against its sovereignty and security. The Israeli forces announced on October 26 that they targeted military sites inside Iran in response to Iranian missile attacks against Israel at the beginning of the same month. While Iran confirmed that these attacks were a reaction to the killing of leaders they support and an officer from the Revolutionary Guard.
In another context, former diplomat Abbas Khamyar stated to Sky News Arabia that Bazeshkian's statements might be somewhat ambiguous, explaining that a ceasefire could affect the level of response, but it would not completely prevent it. Khamyar added that the statements of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and the officials in the Revolutionary Guard emphasize the importance of a firm and precise response to the Israeli "crimes" targeting Iranian national security.
Khamyar pointed out that the United States plays a prominent role in supporting Israel, emphasizing that Iran believes any Iranian response could make the United States a potential target. He pointed out that Iran feels confident in its ability to confront any potential American aggression, as the Iranian National Security Council has agreed on the necessity of a response without clarifying the details regarding its nature and timing, as part of the psychological warfare that Iran seeks to exploit.
Khamenei warned that Israel's threats to target Iranian oil facilities would lead to serious repercussions, pointing out that the United States might find itself in a difficult position if such an escalation occurs, especially after its withdrawal from Afghanistan and Iraq and the increasing Arab and Islamic anger over its support for Israel.
