The Babylon Movement announced today, Monday, that it achieved a significant victory in its first participation in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq elections.
The movement said in a statement received by "Al-Awla": With our first participation in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq parliamentary elections, we managed to win one parliamentary seat, which qualifies us to defend our people in the region.
She added: The current results in the provinces of Duhok and Erbil are not in our favor, but we have made significant progress after receiving substantial public support with thousands of votes in these two provinces, which in itself is a major step towards strengthening our political presence.
She pointed out that the participation of the Babylon Movement and its allies in these elections, along with the prohibition of voting under fictitious names (zombie votes), has resulted in the Kurdistan Democratic Party losing 17 seats, which will prevent it from monopolizing power and strengthen the role of genuine political opposition in the region.
Babylon revealed to the public that its candidates in Duhok and Erbil were subjected to direct pressures and threats from the ruling party, which sought illegal means, including offering large sums of money in exchange for their withdrawal from the electoral race, all of which are documented. Despite those pressures, succumbing to temptations or threats, they proved their loyalty to Iraq and their steadfastness to their principles.
She said that the ruling party has crossed all boundaries, resorting to illegal pressures on employees and families in Erbil and Duhok, and interfering in the affairs of Christians by the brother of the President of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, Mr. Seddad Barzani. Indicating that she possesses the necessary evidence that we will present to the judicial authority to expose these practices.
The Babylon Movement added: Our representative in the Kurdistan Parliament will be the voice of all our people in Duhok, Erbil, and Sulaymaniyah. We will not allow our lands and identity to be taken away, and we will continue to defend our people's rights until justice and dignity are achieved.
The movement pointed out that the time of controlling the voices of the components and exploiting the quota has passed, and that the quota representatives from Babylon in the region will not be subordinates to anyone, but rather strong decision-makers.
The Babylon Movement congratulated the national parties that worked with genuine democratic methods and earned the trust of the people, foremost among them the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan led by Mr. Pavel Talabani and the other parties.
While the Babylon Movement expressed its gratitude to the loyal crowds for their great and continuous support despite all the challenges faced: You have shown your faith in our principles and your steadfastness in supporting our people's rights and defending our identity by supporting the Babylon Movement. Your support is our motivation to continue on this path, for a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, and your step with us brings us closer to achieving justice and dignity for our people.
Sudani: No chance to discuss changing the political system in Iraq.
