The State of Kuwait has decided to revoke the citizenship of two individuals whose names appeared in the "theft of tax funds" case in Iraq, known as the "theft of the century," and announced that they hold dual nationality.
The Kuwaiti newspaper "Al-Rai" mentioned in its issue published today, Sunday, that 5 decrees and 2 decisions have been issued in the official gazette (Kuwait Today), revoking the citizenship of 63 individuals, comprising 55 women and 8 men, for various reasons, including two individuals who were named last August in the "Heist of the Century" case.
The first decree stipulates the revocation of citizenship from 31 women based on the fourth paragraph of Article 13 of Amiri Decree No. 15 of 1959 concerning Kuwaiti nationality and its amended laws, which state that citizenship may be revoked from a Kuwaiti who acquired it in accordance with the provisions of Articles 3, 4, 5, 7, and 8 of the law "if the higher interest of the state or its external security necessitates it, and in this case, Kuwaiti citizenship may also be revoked from those who acquired it through dependency."
The second decree stipulated the revocation of citizenship for 22 women, based on the same reasons. The third decree stipulated the revocation of citizenship from two men and from anyone who may have acquired it through them by way of dependency, based on paragraph 1 of Article 13 of the same decree, which states that citizenship may be revoked from a Kuwaiti who obtained it in accordance with the provisions of Articles 3, 4, 5, 7, and 8 of the law "if it was granted based on fraud or false statements, and in this case, Kuwaiti citizenship may also be revoked from those who acquired it through dependency." Meanwhile, the fourth decree specified the revocation of citizenship from a woman, based on the same paragraph and the same article.
The fifth decree stipulates the revocation of citizenship from a man and anyone who may have acquired it with him by way of dependency, based on the reasons stated in the first and second decrees (paragraph four of Article 13).
A decision has been issued by the Cabinet to revoke the nationality certificate by establishment from five men and from anyone who may have acquired it through that certificate by way of dependency, based on Article (21 bis "A") of the Amiri Decree No. 15 of 1959, which states the following: "The Kuwaiti nationality certificate shall be revoked if it is found to have been granted unlawfully based on fraud, false statements, or incorrect certificates. The revocation shall be by a decision of the Cabinet based on the proposal of the Minister of Interior, and the Kuwaiti nationality shall also be revoked from anyone who has acquired it through dependency on the holder of that certificate."
A second decision was issued by the Council of Ministers to revoke the nationality certificate from a woman and from anyone who may have acquired it through her by way of dependency, based on the same article (21 bis "A").
