A commercial ship was hit by a missile off the coast of Yemen on Tuesday, where Iranian-backed Houthi rebels have been attacking shipping vessels for months.

The British maritime security agency "Ambrey" stated on Tuesday that "the ship was struck by a missile, not by a drone," as previously reported.

It clarified that the damaged vessel was sailing approximately 97 nautical miles northwest of the port of Hodeidah in Yemen.

Since November, the Iran-backed Houthis have launched missile and drone attacks on commercial ships in the Red Sea and the Arabian Sea, claiming they are "linked to Israel or heading to its ports," as part of their support for the Palestinians in Gaza amid the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas since October 7.
