Robert Lewandowski

A report from "The Athletic" has revealed the reasons behind the exclusion of Polish star Robert Lewandowski from the new leadership group of FC Barcelona, despite his extensive experience on the field. The report highlighted that one of the main factors behind this decision was the "unhealthy" relationship between Lewandowski and his teammates in the locker room. There was a lack of comfort from both the players and the coaching staff regarding his nomination for this role.

The report also noted that Lewandowski had been excluded from the leadership group last season under coach Xavi Hernandez due to his continuous criticisms of younger players, which negatively impacted team spirit.

German goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen was chosen as the new team captain following the departure of Sergi Roberto, with the new leadership group also including Ronald Araújo, Raphinha, and Pedri.

It was surprising to see Brazilian player Raphinha chosen over Lewandowski, despite Raphinha not being a regular starter for the team. However, his friendly demeanor with younger players, especially Lamine Yamal, played a significant role in gaining the trust of the coaching staff and securing his place in the leadership group.
