Prime Minister Mr. Mohammed Shia al-Sudani and the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mr. Massoud Pezeshkian, chaired the delegations of their respective countries in the expanded meetings held at the government palace in Baghdad.

During the meeting, they discussed various aspects of cooperation between the two neighboring countries, aiming to achieve mutual interests and benefits. They also reviewed the work of the joint high committee between Iraq and Iran, which will hold its next meeting in Baghdad. Additionally, they discussed security cooperation, the joint security agreement, and constructive collaboration in the fields of refining industries and energy, as well as cooperation between the private sectors of both countries.

The Prime Minister highlighted the religious, social, and historical ties that bind the two neighboring countries, noting that their geographical locations make logistics and transportation connections highly significant. He mentioned the Basra-Shalamcheh railway line for passenger transport and emphasized the government’s commitment to completing and implementing memorandums of understanding.

Prime Minister al-Sudani and President Pezeshkian also oversaw the signing of 14 memorandums of understanding in various fields and sectors, including: economy, training cooperation, youth and sports, cultural, artistic and archaeological exchange, education, media cooperation, communications, the organization of religious tourism groups, cooperation in Iraqi-Iranian free zones, agriculture and natural resources, postal services, social protection, vocational and technical training, workforce skill development, and cooperation between chambers of commerce.
