In a ceremony held at Baghdad Palace… The President of the Republic assigns Mr. Ali Al-Zaidi to form the new government.

President of the Republic Nizar Amidi, in an official ceremony held at Baghdad Palace today, Monday, April 27, 2026, assigned Mr. Ali Al-Zaidi, the nominee of the largest parliamentary bloc, to form the new government. The ceremony was attended by Speaker of Parliament Haibat Al-Halbousi and President of the Supreme Judicial Council Judge Faiq Zaidan, in addition to several leaders of the Coordination Framework.

During the ceremony, the president affirmed that this assignment represents a commitment to the constitution in both letter and spirit and marks the beginning of a path of work that he hopes will be crowned with success. He stressed that Iraq’s interests come above all else and that this is the standard guiding every step, emphasizing the need to work decisively for a just, capable, and unified Iraq where citizens enjoy security, dignity, and prosperity.

The president noted that achieving stability is a shared responsibility that cannot be realized without partnership and prioritizing national interest. He called on political forces to support the Prime Minister–designate and to cooperate seriously with him to expedite the formation of an effective national government that represents all Iraqis and is capable of implementing a comprehensive reform program focused on improving services, strengthening the economy, and reinforcing the principles of justice and the rule of law.

The president expressed his wishes for success to the prime minister–designate in his new duties, hoping he will form a government that meets the aspirations of Iraqis and strengthens Iraq’s sovereignty and stability.

For his part, the prime minister–designate expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the president for his commitment to completing this constitutional entitlement within its required timeframe. He affirmed his determination to work with all political forces to form a government that responds to citizens’ demands for strengthened security, stability, and comprehensive development.
