Without indicating who was behind the incident, Saad Maan, head of the Security Media Cell, announced that two oil tankers had been subjected to a sabotage act inside Iraqi territorial waters. Six vessels were dispatched to rescue the crews, where 38 people were saved while one person was killed in the attack.
Maan confirmed that the government is working hard to avoid being drawn into war and that Iraq reserves the right to take the necessary legal measures.
