Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced a new round of negotiations with the United States in Geneva next Thursday, mediated by the Sultanate of Oman. Officials emphasized the importance of dialogue to enhance stability, with a focus on the nuclear agreement. Detailed negotiations are expected to begin if Iran submits a comprehensive proposal within 48 hours.
In a phone call with his Iraqi counterpart, Fuad Hussein, Araghchi said the negotiation process—mediated by Oman—would continue, with the next session to be held in Geneva.
The call also addressed military mobilizations in the region, with both sides stressing that the correct path to addressing current challenges lies in adopting a peaceful approach and relying on dialogue and negotiations to reduce tensions and strengthen stability.
Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein stated that his call with Araghchi aimed to discuss the latest developments in the negotiation track as well as related regional issues.
This came after a senior U.S. official said on Sunday that the round of talks would take place Thursday in Geneva if the United States receives a detailed proposal from Iran regarding the nuclear agreement within the next 48 hours, according to Axios.
The U.S. official added, "If Iran submits a draft proposal, the United States is ready to meet in Geneva on Friday to begin detailed negotiations to determine whether a nuclear agreement can be reached.”
The official also confirmed that the Trump administration and Iran may discuss the possibility of reaching an interim agreement before finalizing a full nuclear deal.
