GCC Calls on Iraq to Withdraw Its Maritime Maps from the United Nations.

The Secretary‑General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Jasem Al‑Budaiwi, called on Iraq to withdraw the maritime maps it deposited with the United Nations, considering them an encroachment on Kuwait’s sovereignty. He urged adherence to international maritime laws and the bilateral understandings between the two countries. Gulf states—including Jordan, the UAE, and Qatar—expressed their solidarity with Kuwait.

For its part, the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed that submitting the maps is a sovereign right and that no country is permitted to interfere in it. The dispute dates back to the still‑incomplete demarcation of the maritime border since 1993.
