Araghchi: We have reached an understanding with the United States and the two sides will exchange drafts of the potential agreement.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced that he has reached an understanding with the United States on the main principles, while both sides are now working on two versions of a potential agreement to exchange, with some issues still unresolved. The talks are being held in Geneva with the participation of American envoys.

In his first comment after the conclusion of the second round of talks in Geneva, Araghchi said, "We have reached an understanding on the main principles with the United States,” adding that “there have been positive developments compared to the previous round.”

He continued: “Both sides will work on two versions of the potential agreement and exchange them. There are still issues that need further work,” noting that “this does not mean we will reach an agreement soon, but the path has begun.”

The new round of indirect talks between the American and Iranian sides began on Tuesday morning in Geneva, amid statements by U.S. President Donald Trump about strengthening the military presence in the Middle East, along with signals from the Iranian side indicating readiness for compromises.

American envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner took part in the negotiations alongside Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. Iranian state television reported that the latest round of nuclear talks lasted “about three hours.”

The previous round of talks was held on February 6 in Muscat, Oman, marking the first meeting after several months of halted dialogue following the escalation of the Iranian‑Israeli conflict into an open phase in June 2025, which the United States later joined.
