Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al‑Sudani and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stressed during a phone call the need for joint security coordination and for strengthening bilateral relations. They also discussed issues including the Development Road project and increasing trade exchange between the two countries.

The Prime Minister’s media office said in a statement that “Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al‑Sudani received today a phone call from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.”

The statement noted that “during the call, the two sides exchanged congratulations on the upcoming month of Ramadan and discussed bilateral relations and ways to develop them in a manner that enhances cooperation in various fields—particularly the strategic Development Road project, given its economic and investment importance—as well as ways to raise the levels of trade exchange between the two countries.”

According to the statement, both sides “affirmed the importance of following regional and international developments, the need for joint security coordination and combating remnants of terrorism, continuing efforts to strengthen regional security, maintaining dialogue, relying on peaceful solutions, and preventing the expansion of conflicts to spare the region and its peoples the dangers of war.”
