U.S. President Donald Trump revealed that Iran has a strong desire to reach an agreement with the United States, suggesting that a new meeting may take place in the coming days. Trump said he has plenty of time to reach a deal but stressed that the United States will not allow Iran to possess nuclear weapons, adding that a large naval fleet is heading to the Middle East.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on his way to spend the weekend in Florida, Trump said, “We had very, very good talks regarding Iran, and it seems they are very eager to make a deal. We will meet again early next week.”
When asked how long he is willing to wait to reach an agreement with Iran, Trump replied, “Well, you have to be in a good position. We have plenty of time.”
He added, “We will not allow Iran to have nuclear weapons. We have a massive naval fleet heading toward the Middle East, and it will arrive there soon, and we’ll see how things go.”
Trump’s remarks come after talks between delegations from both countries in Muscat, amid a large U.S. military buildup in the region and the president’s warnings that military action is possible if a quick agreement is not reached.
