U.S. President Donald Trump responded to Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei regarding the possibility of a regional war, saying that the world will soon see whether Khamenei’s warnings are accurate if Iran does not reach a nuclear agreement with the United States. For his part, Khamenei affirmed that Iran remains steadfast and will put an end to U.S. interference.
On Sunday, President Donald Trump responded to Khamenei’s remarks about the potential outbreak of a regional war.
Trump said that if Iran does not reach a nuclear agreement with the United States, the world will soon see whether Khamenei is right in warning that an American attack would ignite a regional conflict.
He added to reporters, when asked about his reaction to the Iranian leader’s comments on the possible consequences of a U.S. strike, “Why wouldn’t he say that? Of course, he can say that.”
He continued, “But we have the biggest and most powerful ships in the world, right there, very close. And we hope to reach an agreement,” noting that “if we don’t reach an agreement, we’ll see whether he’s right.”
Trump had previously said that Iran is engaged in serious talks with the United States, while refusing to disclose whether he had decided on a potential military strike against the Iranian government.
Earlier on Sunday, Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei affirmed that Iran is steadfast and will remain steadfast, saying his country will put an end to the United States’ “harmful actions and harassment.”
