The Presidency of the Republic of Iraq affirmed its complete rejection of any foreign interference in the process of forming the government, stressing that this matter is solely the responsibility of Iraqis according to the constitution and elections. It emphasized the importance of respecting national sovereignty as a cornerstone for state-building and political stability. The presidency also expressed Iraq’s commitment to pursuing a balanced foreign policy based on cooperation and mutual respect.
On Thursday, the Presidency of Iraq announced its categorical rejection of any form of foreign intervention in the government formation process, noting that this is a purely internal sovereign matter to be decided only by Iraqis themselves.
In its statement, the presidency reiterated that Iraq’s internal affairs are a sovereign matter determined exclusively by the free will of its people, in accordance with the constitution and through the democratic system based on elections, which represent the true expression of the people’s choices.
In this regard, the presidency stressed that “respect for national sovereignty constitutes a fundamental pillar in building the state and consolidating political stability,” particularly in the process of forming the government, which is based on the results of the elections held last November, with broad participation by Iraqis and the political forces that won seats.
The Presidency of the Republic renewed Iraq’s commitment to adopting a balanced foreign policy founded on openness and positive cooperation with all countries, in a way that strengthens relations based on mutual respect and non-interference in internal affairs, while achieving common interests of peoples and contributing to regional and international security and stability.
