EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas announced on Thursday that EU member states had agreed to classify Iran’s Revolutionary Guard as a “terrorist organization.” According to observers, this move comes in the context of the bloc’s increasingly tough stance toward Tehran, marking a significant shift in the EU’s position on Iran in general, and specifically toward one of the most influential institutions of the regime.

On Thursday, EU foreign ministers approved the designation of the Revolutionary Guard as a “terrorist organization” in response to the violent crackdown on protests that took place in the Islamic Republic.

Kaja Kallas wrote on the platform, X: “Repression cannot go unanswered. EU foreign ministers have just taken the decisive step of designating Iran’s Revolutionary Guard as a terrorist organization.”
