The United Nations announced that Iraq has moved from classification (E) to classification (B), reflecting its improved security stability.
Iraq’s Minister of Interior, Abdul Amir al-Shammari, received the UN Assistant Secretary-General for Operations, where they discussed security and logistical cooperation. The UN official praised Iraq’s role in supporting UN missions.
In a statement on Sunday, the Iraqi Ministry of Interior revealed that Minister al-Shammari “received in his office in Baghdad the UN Assistant Secretary-General for Operations, during which they discussed prospects for joint cooperation between the Ministry of Interior and UN missions working in Iraq, particularly in the areas of security, logistical support, and exchange of expertise.”
The Minister of Interior affirmed the ministry’s commitment to continuing constructive cooperation with international organizations, foremost among them the United Nations, in ways that strengthen security and stability and support Iraq’s path toward further institutional and security development.
According to the statement, the UN Assistant Secretary-General praised Iraq’s pivotal role and the significant efforts made by the Ministry of Interior in providing the necessary support and protection for UN missions throughout their work in the country, stressing that this cooperation directly contributed to the success of those missions and the achievement of their goals.
He also noted that the United Nations has recorded remarkable progress in Iraq’s security situation, as the country has moved from classification (E) to classification (B), placing it among the ranks of secure states. He explained that this classification is considered one of the most important indicators adopted by the UN in measuring the quality of security and stability.
