Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Fuad Hussein, during his meeting with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, stressed the necessity of joint cooperation between Iraq and Iran in the fields of security and development, emphasizing the interconnected nature of regional security and calling for challenges to be addressed through dialogue. They also discussed developments in forming the new Iraqi government and shared economic and political challenges.
Hussein, who also serves as Iraq’s Foreign Minister, affirmed that regional security “is interconnected and cannot be divided,” stressing the need for joint work to achieve sustainable development for the peoples of the region.
According to a statement from the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Hussein reviewed with President Pezeshkian in Tehran the progress of discussions on forming the new Iraqi government.
He pointed out that regional security is inseparable, emphasizing the importance of creating a stable environment that contributes to sustainable development. Hussein also reviewed the ongoing political process in Iraq, particularly the nearing completion of constitutional requirements with the selection of a new president and the formation of a new government.
He added that the challenges and threats still present require different approaches based on dialogue and addressing internal causes.
For his part, Pezeshkian highlighted the circumstances currently facing the Islamic Republic of Iran, noting the deep fraternal and historical ties between Iraq and Iran. He also stressed the importance of enhancing stability in the region, given its direct impact on security and development.
Earlier, Hussein and Ali Larijani, Secretary-General of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, discussed ways to strengthen coordination and cooperation to confront shared security challenges. Hussein pointed out that Iraq and Iran, along with other regional states, face similar economic challenges.
Fuad Hussein arrived in Tehran on Sunday morning for an official visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran.
