An Israeli report revealed details of a discussion between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and U.S. President Donald Trump regarding the possibility of launching a “second round” of military strikes against Iran in 2026. The conversation reportedly took place during a meeting between the two leaders on Monday.
According to Israel’s Channel 12, citing a senior U.S. official and two other American sources familiar with the meeting, Netanyahu expressed Israel’s concerns over Iran’s reconstruction efforts following the 12-day war that erupted in June. He argued that additional strikes might be necessary to prevent Tehran from rebuilding its capabilities—particularly its nuclear and missile programs.
While the White House declined to officially comment on the meeting’s content, a U.S. official confirmed that the possibility of military action against Iran was on the agenda. The official noted that Trump believes any Iranian attempt to revive its nuclear program would be met with a decisive response, though he still prefers reaching a new nuclear agreement with Tehran.
The official added that Trump may support a “second round” of strikes if the U.S. determines that Iran is taking concrete and verifiable steps to restore its nuclear program. However, a key point of contention remains the definition of what constitutes a “revival” of the nuclear program—and whether there is alignment between the U.S. and Israel on that definition.
