European Council President António Costa confirmed on Friday that the European Union has approved €90 billion in support for Ukraine for the period spanning 2026 to 2027.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk noted that EU leaders, during a summit in Brussels on Thursday, agreed to explore the option of funding Ukraine during those years by using frozen Russian assets instead of resorting to joint borrowing by EU member states.

He added, “We are certainly aiming for a breakthrough, which means everyone agrees it’s worth trying, and using Russian assets for Ukraine would be a justified and sound move for Europe. However, some countries will continue to push for maximum guarantees to protect their interests.”

Meanwhile, a U.S. official revealed that a Kremlin envoy is expected to travel to the U.S. state of Florida to discuss a peace plan proposed by the United States to end the war in Ukraine. This comes as part of reciprocal diplomatic efforts, with the administration of President Donald Trump pushing for a potential agreement.

Russian Direct Investment Fund head Kirill Dmitriev is scheduled to meet with Trump’s envoy, Steve Witkoff, and Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, in Miami on Saturday, according to another U.S. official.

Trump has launched an intensive diplomatic initiative to end nearly four years of fighting, though Washington’s efforts have faced sharply conflicting demands from both Moscow and Kyiv.

Russian President Vladimir Putin warned last Wednesday that Moscow would seek to expand its territorial gains in Ukraine. Kyiv and its Western allies have rejected the Kremlin’s demands in peace negotiations.
