Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf declared that a successful missile test with a range exceeding the length of the Gulf was “very pleasing to the Iranian people.”
In a speech before parliament on Sunday, reported by Iran’s Tasnim News Agency, Ghalibaf stated that the missiles used in the large-scale naval exercise by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy in the Gulf hit their targets with high precision.
He praised the achievement as the result of Iranian elite efforts and commended the IRGC Navy’s skill and bravery in executing the exercise.
Ghalibaf also strongly condemned what he described as recent “baseless and laughable” claims by the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) regarding the islands of Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb, and Abu Musa. He warned neighboring countries against “testing the will of the Iranian people in defending their land and islands.”
At the conclusion of last week’s GCC summit, the Supreme Council reaffirmed the United Arab Emirates’ sovereignty over the three “occupied” islands—Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb, and Abu Musa—stating in its communiqué that any Iranian actions or claims regarding the islands are “null and void.”
The summit also denounced what it called Iranian escalation, including the construction of residential facilities, military exercises, and visits by Iranian officials to the occupied islands. It called on Iran to engage in direct negotiations or refer the matter to the International Court of Justice for a peaceful resolution.
