U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated on Wednesday that Venezuela is providing a foothold for Iran, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, and even Hezbollah.

In an interview with Fox News, Rubio said, “The regime of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro allows cocaine and drugs produced in Colombia to be trafficked through Venezuelan territory into the United States.”

He added that “the Venezuelan regime is a source of instability for the entire region” and noted that President Donald Trump had authorized a mission to combat drug trafficking in the area.

Rubio continued, “The fact that Maduro is upset about the presidential anti-drug mandate suggests that drugs are indeed being smuggled from Venezuela,” claiming that “the Venezuelan president has made five deals with various parties over the years and has broken all of them.”

Meanwhile, a report by CNN stated that “Trump’s venture in Venezuela is spiraling out of control.” The network reported that “President Donald Trump’s administration is facing an escalating dilemma in Venezuela, where the regime-change adventure risks turning into a strategic, political, and legal quagmire.”
