The U.S. Department of Defense (Pentagon) has approved a helicopter equipment deal worth up to $1 billion for Saudi Arabia, a key U.S. ally outside of NATO.

The two countries had previously signed a Strategic Defense Agreement during Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's visit to Washington, held at the White House.

The "Strategic Defense Agreement" aims to bolster Riyadh’s efforts to develop its military industries and enhance the readiness of its armed forces by implementing the areas of cooperation outlined in the defense pact.
