U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Saturday the complete closure of airspace over Venezuela and its surrounding areas.

Posting on his Truth Social platform, Trump stated, “To all airlines, pilots, drug traffickers, and human traffickers, please consider the airspace over and around Venezuela completely closed.”

Earlier in the day, Spain and Portugal advised their airlines to avoid flying over Venezuelan airspace in the coming days, according to the TASS news agency.

Trump also indicated that the United States is preparing to take new measures against drug trafficking networks in Venezuela, noting that ground operations would begin “very soon.”

Additionally, Trump ordered airstrikes targeting boats that Washington claims were used by drug traffickers in Venezuelan Caribbean waters. These strikes reportedly destroyed dozens of vessels and resulted in more than 80 fatalities.
