Riyadh and Washington Formalize Historic Partnership with Strategic Defense Agreement.

U.S. President Donald Trump and Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman signed the Strategic Defense Agreement at the White House.

The agreement strengthens Riyadh’s efforts to develop its military industries and enhances the readiness of its armed forces by implementing the areas of cooperation outlined in the defense pact.

It establishes the two countries’ shared goals in promoting international peace and security and elevates their decades-long military relationship to the highest levels of cooperation and joint coordination. The agreement is not directed against any country and aims to promote security and peace.

According to the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Strategic Defense Agreement is part of the long-standing strategic partnership and deep-rooted historical ties between the two nations, which span over 90 years. It marks a pivotal step in reinforcing long-term defense cooperation and reflects both sides’ commitment to supporting peace, security, and prosperity in the region.

The agreement also affirms that Saudi Arabia and the United States are security partners capable of working together to confront regional and global challenges and threats, thereby deepening long-term defense coordination.

It enhances deterrence capabilities and military readiness, while also advancing and integrating defense capabilities between the two sides. The agreement provides a solid framework for a continuous and sustainable defense partnership that contributes to the security and stability of both nations.

Additionally, other agreements were signed, including a strategic partnership in artificial intelligence, a joint statement on the conclusion of negotiations on civil nuclear energy cooperation, and a strategic framework for securing supply chains for uranium, rare earth elements, permanent magnets, and critical minerals.
