United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Tom Fletcher, stated on Friday that the atrocities in El Fasher, Sudan, are among the “worst ”crimes”—crimes that were anticipated and could have been prevented.
Fletcher is currently in the Darfur region, the location of El Fasher. The city has witnessed horrific acts and a massive wave of displacement recently.
He added that there has been excessive posturing and minimal action from the international community in response to the atrocities in El Fasher.
Fletcher issued a strong warning about escalating violence in Kordofan, Sudan, where bombing, sieges, and forced displacement are taking place.
He called for action against individuals and companies that “fuel and profit from” the war in Sudan.
