On Tuesday, the Iraqi Ministry of Transport announced that the first domestic flight to Mosul International Airport will take place this coming Thursday as part of the scheduled operations of Iraqi Airways.
According to a statement from the ministry’s media office, “The operation of Mosul International Airport for domestic flights has been announced, paving the way for international flights in the near future.”
The statement quoted Airports Director Hussein Al-Zubaidi, who confirmed that “the airport is fully ready and complete in all technical and logistical aspects, including navigation systems and passenger service facilities.”
He added that “the airport was built according to international standards, with all systems sourced from top manufacturers and subjected to a series of inspections by specialized committees, which confirmed their readiness and compliance with safety standards.”
Al-Zubaidi also noted that coordination is ongoing with Iraqi Airways to operate domestic flights according to the company’s schedule, in preparation for launching international flights soon.
The statement highlighted that the Airports Directorate has specialized technical and administrative teams overseeing the airport’s operation and that supporting departments have begun their work inside the airport to ensure operations commence according to the highest standards.
It’s worth noting that the first trial flight to Mosul Airport took place on June 5, carrying an official delegation.
The statement concluded by emphasizing that the Ministry of Transport, in cooperation with the Nineveh Governorate, aims to operate Mosul Airport as a major step in connecting the province to the world. The Development Road project, which includes Nineveh, anticipates the airport to stimulate economic, tourism, and investment activity in the city.
