The Swedish police officially thanked Iraq after receiving custody of a "highly dangerous" gang leader wanted for charges including murder, drug trafficking, and arms dealing, according to a statement released Saturday by the media office of Iraqi Interior Minister Abdul Amir Al-Shammari.
The minister’s office stated that the Swedish police confirmed this handover was the result of close security cooperation between the two countries, following Al-Shammari’s recent visit to Stockholm.
In a press release, Deputy Chief of Swedish Police Steven Hector said, “We would like to thank Iraq for this cooperation. A significant criminal figure has been handed over to Sweden, which demonstrates the effectiveness of the partnership between our countries.”
Al-Shammari’s office also noted that Iraq’s Interior Ministry has signed numerous cooperation and understanding agreements with Arab and friendly nations, which have positively contributed to dismantling criminal networks and extraditing internationally wanted individuals.
