The head of the Dhi Qar Reconstruction Fund, Mohammed Jawad, announced that the tourist city of Ur receives about 300 visitors monthly from both within Iraq and abroad.
Jawad told the official news agency that “there are teams within the tourist city of Ur that submit reports on the number of visitors, which reaches 300 monthly from various provinces and countries,” noting that “revitalizing the tourism sector in Dhi Qar is necessary.”
He confirmed that “the tourist city of Ur was established near the ancient city of Ur to boost tourism, and one of the most important projects supporting the tourism sector is the construction of Nasiriyah Airport.” He added that “the strategy set by the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers to implement such projects in support of Dhi Qar is positive and serves as a model for other provinces.”
He emphasized “the need to develop future plans for provinces, such as activating the agricultural and industrial sectors, which would ease the burden on the state and reduce reliance on oil revenues.” He pointed out that “Dhi Qar includes two tourist sites: the tourist city of Ur and the marshes of Al-Chibayish, which receive many visitors.”
He stated that “during our visit to the district commissioner of Al-Chibayish, he presented statistics on the number of tourists visiting the marshes, despite the impact of reduced water releases.” He explained that “the fund has had a clear impact within the province, covering all sectors with its projects.”
He also noted that “Dhi Qar currently enjoys good security conditions, thanks to cooperation with security forces and continuous daily communication with the Dhi Qar Police Command regarding supported projects,” adding that “the Dhi Qar Police Command is cooperative with the fund.”
