Amid ongoing negotiations between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and Damascus, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan urged the SDF to integrate into the Syrian army.

Speaking to journalists during his return flight from Sharm El-Sheikh on Tuesday, Erdoğan said that the SDF’s integration with Damascus would accelerate the country’s development.

He stated, “We continuously warn the Syrian Democratic Forces against taking the wrong paths, and we call on them to support Syria’s unity and cohesion.”

He also expressed hope that “the SDF will adopt a stance that leads to the unity of Syrian territory and a prosperous future for the country.”

Furthermore, Erdoğan confirmed that comprehensive communications are ongoing with the Syrian government at all levels and across all fields. He added, “We are determined to strengthen coordination and close cooperation to safeguard Syria’s and the region’s gains.”

He also remarked that “there is no room to leave Syrian President Ahmad Al-Sharaa and his colleagues on their own,” as he put it.

In recent days, several meetings have taken place between the SDF and the Syrian government to discuss the integration of those forces into the official army and security institutions.
