China Strongly Opposes New U.S. Tariffs.

The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed strong opposition on Sunday to the new tariffs imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump on Chinese goods.

In an official statement, the ministry said that the export controls China imposed on rare earth metals—which Trump described on Friday as “surprising” and “highly hostile”—came in response to a series of U.S. actions following bilateral trade talks in Madrid last month.

Beijing pointed to examples such as the inclusion of Chinese companies on a U.S. trade blacklist and Washington’s imposition of port fees on Chinese ships.

The statement added that “these measures have severely harmed China’s interests and undermined the atmosphere of bilateral economic and trade negotiations,” stressing that “China strongly opposes these actions.”

On Friday, President Trump announced that the U.S. would impose an additional 100% tariff on Chinese goods and introduce export controls on strategic software to China starting November 1, following what he called Beijing’s “extremely strict” restrictions on rare earth exports.

In a post on the Truth Social platform, Trump stated, “In light of this unprecedented stance, the United States will impose a 100% tariff on China, in addition to any existing tariffs.”
