Iran’s Tasnim News Agency revealed on Sunday that Iran will not participate in the Egyptian Sharm El-Sheikh Summit, despite receiving an official invitation from U.S. President Donald Trump and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.
The agency quoted an informed Iranian source stating that “Tehran will not attend the summit scheduled in Sharm El-Sheikh,” which aims to discuss a ceasefire plan in the Gaza Strip following a preliminary agreement between Israel and Hamas.
Egypt is set to host the international summit tomorrow, Monday, under the title “Sharm El-Sheikh for Peace,” with participation from over 20 countries, including Spain, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Indonesia, the United Kingdom, and France. Notably, Israel will not be attending the summit.
Arab and Israeli media had reported that Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian received an official invitation to attend, making Iran’s withdrawal a surprising move that raises questions about the motives and political implications behind the decision.
