A government source told Agence France-Presse that Taliban authorities in Afghanistan have severed fiber optic connections across the country “until further notice.”
The source, who requested anonymity ahead of the shutdown, stated, “There is no other means or system for communication... the banking sector, customs, and everything across the country will be affected.”
The internet and cybersecurity watchdog NetBlocks reported that the “total national connectivity is now below 1% of normal levels,” describing the situation as a complete blackout.
