Iran’s judiciary-affiliated news agency Mizan reported on Monday that authorities executed a man named Bahman Choubi Asl, describing him as “one of the most important spies for Israel in Iran.”
Tehran, which has been engaged in a decades-long shadow war with Israel, has executed numerous individuals accused of having ties to the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad and facilitating its operations inside the country.
According to Mizan, “Mossad’s primary goal in recruiting the defendant was to gain access to government databases and infiltrate Iranian data centers. Additionally, he pursued secondary objectives, including investigating the routes for importing electronic equipment.”
The Supreme Court rejected the defendant’s appeal and upheld the death sentence on charges of “corruption on earth.”
The Iranian-Israeli conflict escalated into direct warfare in June, when Israel launched strikes on various targets inside Iran, including operations involving Mossad special forces deployed deep within the country.
Executions of Iranians convicted of spying for Israel have surged this year, with at least 10 death sentences carried out in recent months.
