On Sunday, Vietnamese authorities announced the closure of airports and the evacuation of thousands of residents from areas threatened by Typhoon Bualoi, which has intensified as it heads toward the country after causing dozens of deaths and widespread flooding in the Philippines.

According to meteorological reports, “the typhoon’s wind speeds have reached 133 kilometers per hour, and it is expected to strike central Vietnam this evening—earlier than previously forecast due to its acceleration.”

The Vietnamese government stated that “Ha Tinh province has begun evacuating more than 15,000 people, while thousands of soldiers have been placed on emergency standby. The Civil Aviation Authority suspended flights at four coastal airports, including Da Nang International Airport, and adjusted travel schedules.”

Authorities also noted that “heavy rains accompanying the typhoon have already caused flooding in the provinces of Hue and Quang Tri.”
