Third Consecutive Postponement: Absence of MPs Disrupts Iraqi Parliament Session.

Members of the Iraqi Council of Representatives were absent from today's Wednesday session, marking the third consecutive time their absence prevented the legal quorum from being met—despite calls from the presidency urging them to attend and uphold their "legislative and legal responsibilities."

In a statement, the council’s media office announced that "the parliament session was postponed due to the lack of a legal quorum." A parliamentary source indicated that the session has been rescheduled for next week.

Mohammed Anouz, a member of the parliamentary legal committee, criticized the continued disruption of sessions in remarks to Shafaq News, describing it as a clear disregard for the MPs’ responsibilities toward the people by those who are absent.

A presidential meeting held in parliament on Tuesday emphasized the importance of attendance by bloc leaders and council members in upcoming sessions to actively participate in passing key legislation, calling it a "national duty that cannot be postponed."

This comes after the parliament failed to convene its regular sessions on both Monday and Tuesday due to the same quorum issue. The agenda for those sessions included 11 items, with 7 dedicated to voting on draft laws and a proposed bill.
