Iraq Wins International Lawsuit Against Embezzlement Suspect.

The Iraqi Ministry of Justice announced on Monday that it had won a legal case that spared the country from paying financial compensation demanded by a suspect accused of embezzling funds from the Securities Commission.

Haytham Mohi Radi, Director General of the Legal Department at the Ministry, stated that the case was initiated following a request from the Integrity Commission, in coordination with the Securities Commission, to examine a lawsuit filed in Jordanian courts. The lawsuit sought financial compensation after a 15-year prison sentence was issued against a Jordanian defendant who had embezzled funds from the accounts of the Iraqi Stock and Bond Exchange Authority.

Radi added that the Legal Department responded by initiating enforcement proceedings abroad, conducting thorough follow-ups, and preparing comprehensive legal pleadings. This effort led to a final ruling by the Amman Court of First Instance, which approved the enforcement of the original ruling issued by the Karrada Court in Iraq and granted it final status—making it ready for execution.

He emphasized that this achievement reflects the state's ability to defend its rights in international forums and strengthens institutional confidence in the efficiency of Iraq’s legal system, which helped protect the public treasury from financial liabilities.
