Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al-Sudani affirmed that the reconstruction of Al-Nuri Mosque and its iconic Al-Hadba Minaret will remain a defining milestone, symbolizing the heroism of Iraqis and their defense of their homeland.
In his speech during the inauguration, he stated that this grand mosque stands as a shining symbol of Islamic civilization in Iraq and serves as a living testament to the enduring journey of the Iraqi people, crowned by peaceful coexistence and continuous brotherhood among all segments and communities of the nation.
The Prime Minister expressed his gratitude and appreciation to all parties involved in restoring this proud heritage, foremost among them the United Arab Emirates, UNESCO, the Ministry of Culture, the Sunni Endowment Office, the Mosul Governorate, and both international and Iraqi experts across all contributing disciplines, as well as everyone who supported the “Revive the Spirit of Mosul” project.
Al-Sudani emphasized that rebuilding the Al-Hadba Minaret is an added symbol of Iraqis’ great victory over the forces of darkness, whose efforts to sow division, hatred, and discord among the people have failed forever. These groups brought nothing but ignorance and hostility toward Iraq’s proud and towering architectural heritage.
Key highlights from his speech included
The terrorist act of blowing up the Al-Hadba Minaret was an attempt to kill the spirit of Mosul and sever its connection to its honorable history.
The destruction of Al-Nuri Mosque and the Mosque of Prophet Yunus represented the peak of moral decline and valuelessness of terrorism, which was exposed to the entire world.
The reconstruction of Al-Nuri Mosque and its minaret will remain a landmark that reminds all enemies of the bravery of Iraqis, their defense of their land, and their rebuilding of what the extremists destroyed.
Nearly 900 years ago, Muslims built this grand mosque, and since then it has become a symbol of serenity, peace, and harmony in Mosul.
Mosul embraced all its noble communities, making it a city that reflects the diverse nature of Iraqi society.
The government has adopted a cultural and civilizational vision for architectural heritage, embodied in reviving Iraq’s rich memory.
We have worked to promote tourism in all its forms and all cultural activities that are part of our nation’s renaissance after defeating terrorism.
We will continue to support culture and efforts to highlight Iraqi antiquities as a social necessity, a gateway for the world to our country, an opportunity for sustainable development, and a field where youth can thrive.
