Israeli army spokesperson Avichay Adraee confirmed on Sunday that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the Shin Bet security agency succeeded in killing the head of the propaganda apparatus within Hamas’s military wing, identified as Hudhayfa al-Kahlout, known by his alias “Abu Ubaida.”

In a post on the platform “X,” Adraee stated:

“The operation was directed from the Shin Bet’s operations room, based on prior intelligence gathered by Shin Bet and the Intelligence Directorate, which indicated his hiding location.”

He noted that:

“Al-Kahlout led Hamas’s military propaganda system over the past decade. He was responsible for military media across Hamas brigades and battalions and coordinated between Hamas’s political and military media entities. He was the most prominent figure in shaping propaganda policy.”

Adraee added:

“Abu Ubaida was the media face of Hamas. In his role, he disseminated Hamas propaganda to incite attacks and led psychological warfare efforts before and during the war.”

He explained that:

“The Hamas propaganda apparatus under al-Kahlout was responsible for spreading footage of the October 7 atrocities, using scenes documented by Hamas operatives.”

He continued:

“Al-Kahlout also oversaw the release of inciting videos aimed at encouraging audiences in the Arab world and among Palestinians to carry out similar attacks.”

Adraee added:

“During the war, al-Kahlout was behind the dissemination of psychological propaganda videos featuring Israeli civilians and soldiers held captive inside Gaza.”

On Sunday morning, Arab media outlets reported the death of the spokesperson for Hamas’s military wing, the Al-Qassam Brigades, known as “Abu Ubaida,” citing a Palestinian source.

The source stated that Israel targeted an apartment where the spokesperson was present, and the Israeli strike killed everyone inside.

The source also mentioned that members of Abu Ubaida’s family and senior Al-Qassam leaders confirmed his death after examining the body.

The Israeli army spokesperson had announced on Saturday that a prominent Hamas figure in Gaza had been targeted.

Adraee wrote on “X” that the army had launched an airstrike on a “central figure” in Hamas in Gaza City, in the northern part of the Strip.
