Libya: Foiled Attempt to Target UN Headquarters.

Libya’s Government of National Unity announced that it successfully thwarted an attempt to target the United Nations Mission headquarters in the capital, Tripoli.

In an official statement, the government strongly condemned the failed attempt, describing it as a dangerous act aimed at undermining security and stability and damaging Libya’s relations with the international community. It also praised the efforts of the Ministry of Interior and its agencies.

Libyan authorities confirmed that security forces were able to detect the attempt swiftly, intercept it, and seize a vehicle equipped with additional rockets and a launch base—effectively foiling the plot, according to the statement.

The authorities emphasized that pursuing the perpetrators and those behind them is a responsibility they will not take lightly. They pledged to track them down and bring them to justice, reaffirming their commitment to building professional and unified security institutions and ending the presence of unlawful armed groups to strengthen state stability and the rule of law.

Reports on Thursday evening mentioned an attempted attack on the UN Mission headquarters in Tripoli, with no casualties reported. The incident came shortly after UN Special Representative Hanna Tetteh briefed the UN Security Council on the situation in Libya.
