For the First Time Since the War with Israel Iran Announces Military Drills in the South.

On Thursday, Iran launched solo military exercises—the first of their kind since the end of the 12-day war with Israel. According to official media, the army’s navy conducted drills off the southern coast of the country, during which short- and medium-range missiles and drones were fired. Tehran had announced on Wednesday the development of new missiles as part of its preparations for any potential future confrontation with Israel.

Iranian state television reported that the army began military exercises in the south of the country, involving naval units launching missiles and drones at targets in the open waters of the Indian Ocean, as part of the missile drills dubbed “Power 1404.”

The broadcast added, “These drills come about a month after joint Iranian-Russian exercises... held in Iran’s northern waters (the Caspian Sea). As for the ‘Power’ drills... they are taking place in Iran’s southern waters.”

This follows Tehran’s announcement on Wednesday of newly developed missiles with greater capabilities than those used during its war with Israel last June.

The official news agency IRNA quoted Defense Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh as saying, “The missiles used in the 12-day war were manufactured by the Ministry of Defense years ago,” adding, “Today we have produced and possess missiles with greater capabilities than the previous ones, and if the Zionist enemy embarks on another adventure, we will certainly use these missiles.”

On Monday, Iranian Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref emphasized that Iran must be “ready for confrontation at any moment,” stating, “We are not under a ceasefire; we are in a state of suspended hostilities.”
