High-level Syrian sources have reported that Syria and Israel will sign a security agreement under U.S. sponsorship on September 25, with American President Donald Trump in attendance.

The sources explained that the agreement will be preceded by a speech on September 24 by the head of the transitional period, Abu Mohammad al-Julani, in New York, as part of his participation in the United Nations General Assembly meetings.

According to the sources, Tel Aviv and Damascus will not sign a comprehensive peace agreement in the near future; the agreement will be limited to the security aspect to reduce tensions between the two countries.

Two informed Syrian sources stated that Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shibani met with Israeli Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer in Paris to discuss security arrangements in southern Syria.

Syrian and Israeli officials are holding U.S.-mediated talks aimed at calming the conflict in southern Syria. A previous round of these talks took place in Paris in late July but ended without reaching a final agreement.

The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported that al-Shibani met with an Israeli delegation on Tuesday but did not mention Dermer.
