The news site Axios revealed on Tuesday that a highly anticipated meeting is set to take place today between Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shibani and Israeli Minister of Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer in the French capital, Paris.
According to the site, “Al-Shibani and Dermer will meet in Paris tonight, with the participation of U.S. envoy to Lebanon and Syria, Tom Barrack. The meeting is expected to address security arrangements along the Syrian-Israeli border.”
The report added that “these developments come amid repeated reports of international mediation efforts aimed at opening communication channels between Damascus and Tel Aviv, especially after years of public estrangement.”
Paris has previously hosted undisclosed meetings between Syrian and Israeli figures under European mediation, focusing on border security and the occupied Golan Heights.
