On Saturday, the White House revealed that U.S. President Donald Trump held an extended phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky following his summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska. Trump also spoke with NATO leaders shortly afterward.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that Trump made the call to Zelensky from Air Force One during his return to Washington. According to Axios, the conversation lasted over an hour and a half and included European leaders as well.

A spokesperson for the European Commission confirmed that Trump briefed EU leaders on the summit’s outcomes. Participants in the call included European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, French President Emmanuel Macron, and leaders from Germany, Finland, Poland, Italy, and the UK.

The call was described as “not easy,” with Zelensky reportedly planning to meet Trump in Washington on Monday to continue discussions⁽¹⁾. The summit between Trump and Putin did not result in a ceasefire or formal agreement, but both leaders characterized the talks as productive.

Zelensky expressed support for a proposed trilateral meeting between Ukraine, the U.S., and Russia, and emphasized the importance of direct dialogue to end the war. He also noted “positive signals” from the American side regarding security guarantees for Ukraine.
