A 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck the Sındırgı district in Balıkesir Province, western Turkey, on Sunday, according to the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD).
The quake, recorded at 7:53 p.m. local time (4:53 p.m. GMT), was felt across several cities in the western part of the country, including Istanbul and Izmir. Turkish authorities have not yet reported any casualties or damage.
Collapsed Buildings:
Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya stated on X (formerly Twitter) that “all teams from the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority and relevant institutions immediately began field investigations,” adding that “no undesirable incidents have been reported so far.”
However, video footage broadcast by Turkish media showed collapsed buildings in Balıkesir Province.
